The SDSS-II SN Survey is completing its third and final observing campaign (Fall 2005-7), with the primary goal of obtaining well measured light-curves of type-Ia SNe in the redshift range 0.05 < z < 0.35. At present the survey has discovered 400 spectroscopically confirmed type-Ia SNe. The large area, rapid cadence, and multi-wavelength coverage of the survey, along with our detailed studies of the survey SN discovery efficiency, allow for a precise determination of the SN rate. We present our measurement of the low-z (z ≤ 0.12) SN Ia rate, based primarily on spectroscopically identified SNe Ia, and discuss using SN data to constrain models of the evolution of the SN rate with redshift.
We also present a preliminary measurement of the SN Ia rate to a redshift limit z 0.25, and discuss our studies of the survey spectroscopic incompleteness and contamination of the sample by non-Ia SNe. Finally we present preliminary results of the SN Ia rate in galaxy clusters in the survey region.
