The Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) will produce a digital map of the entire sky in the J (1.25mu m), H (1.65mu m), and K_s (2.17mu m) photometric bands to a 10sigma limiting point-source sensitivity of 15.8, 15.1, and 14.3 magnitudes, respectively. Although galactic and extragalactic scientific objectives provide the motivation for conducting the survey, 2MASS will record J, H, and K_s magnitudes for thousands of asteroids with sufficient precision to permit rudimentary classification. 2MASS provides single-epoch coverage of most of the sky, requiring a prediction of the asteroid's position at the time of observation in order to extract fluxes. 2MASS coordinates for point sources will be accurate to <0.5('') . The 2MASS scans will have a spatial overlap of 10% between successive observations, providing two epochs separated in time by between 1 and 12 minutes for a small fraction of the sky. 2MASS may also scan one or more 0.1 square degree calibration fields in the ecliptic on a daily or weekly basis.
