RECENTLY, Delannoy and Weill1 have reported a new atomic emission line in the spectrum of the twilight sky at Terre Adelie. The wave-length of the radiation is given as 6708 +/- 1.5 A., and the authors suggest that the line may be the resonance line of lithium at 6707.8 A. The observation is confirmed, and the same identification proposed, by Gadsden and Salmon2 (New Zealand and Antarctica). On the assumption that the identification is correct and that the lithium and sodium atoms are distributed in the same manner in the atmosphere, Barbier et al.3 have computed the ratio of the concentration of lithium to sodium from the line intensities. They arrive at a ratio which agrees with the ratio found for the metals in meteorites.
