Numerical methods of chaotic dynamics as applied to solar cycle investigations are discussed. The noise nature of the small-scale, short-period variations in the sunspot number is demonstrated. The paper proposes the presence of a saddle-focus-type stable point on the trajectory which is responsible for the appearance of instability and results in the formation of a homoclinical trajectory, the time of whose passage along the sunspot is close to a 100-yr cycle. It is shown that the Poincare map of the phase trajectory results in the conformity of the square-type maximum, which is direct proof of the chaotic nature of the 11-yr variations of solar activity.
