A set of 260 nearby A V stars has been analysed under the assumption that their line-of-sight velocities with respect to the Sun can be expressed as a smooth velocity field. The equation of the field is derived from a three-dimensional first order Taylor series, and its parameters are determined as least squares fits. The resulting field shows strong departures from pure circular motion in the galactic plane, and is dominated by large kinematic compressions toward the Sun.
