The magnetic field structure of the solar active region Hale 16747 is described on the basis of numerical calculations. The numerical calculations were carried out based on observations of two homologous solar flare events on April 7 and 8, 1981. It is found that: (1) the magnetic flux tubes of the active region twisted continuously during the flare events due to the counterclock wise rotation of sunspots; and (2) thin dark filaments observed to the east of the sunspots ran in the direction of the transverse magnetic field. It is suggested that the time rate of solar flare occurrences in the active region may be related to the evolution of the magnetic field. The numerical results are compared to the hypothesis of Zhu (1984) concerning the relationship between flare occurrences and magnetic field structure in active regions.
