As they orbit the sun over a great range of distance, comets represent a class of objects subject to a wide variety of environmental and thermodynamical inputs. The author has considered the effects of varying insolation on cometary bodies having a reasonable range of composition and structure in order to model observed emission and outgassing characteristics. A model incorporating biotic matter, as proposed by Hoyle et al has also been studied.
