The thermal regime of an ellipsoidal comet nucleus consisting of water ice is examined. An analytical solution for the nonstationary heat conduction equation is obtained, taking into account the energy balance and proper rotation of the nucleus surface. Temperature fields at different heliocentric distances are calculated for different spatial positions of the nucleus axis. It is found that the temperature distribution significantly depends on the nucleus form and the heliocentric distance and spatial oriention of the nucleus. For an ellipsoidal nucleus, the shift of the hottest point relative to the subsolar point at a given heliocentric distance differs according to the nucleus orientation with respect to the sun.
