The spectroscopic behaviour of CH Cygni during the 1977 - 84 outburst is described. Hβ profile variations in the period 1982 - 84 are presented and discussed. Sudden changes in the radial velocities and intensities of Hβ profile components as well as a drop of the UBV brightness in August - December 1984 may be interpreted as the eclipse ingress of the Balmer emission region by the M6 giant. This event coincides with the epoch of eclipse predicted from the spectroscopic ephemeris given by Yamashita and Maehara (1979).
