The characteristics of the Swedish ESO 15-m-diameter submillimeter-wavelength telescope at La Silla are described. The telescope reflector surface has been fabricated to within 65 microns of the ideal paraboloid. The evaluation results show an aperature efficiency at 100 GHz of about 60 percent, along with a pointing accuracy of about 3-arcsec rms in both azimuth and elevation. The results of preliminary astronomical measurements are discussed.
