High resolution aperture synthesis observations of SNR CTA1 and the surrounding interstellar medium are presented. Evidence of a shell of H I associated with the SNR is presented, and its velocity is used to derive a distance to CTA1 of 1.4 +/- 0.3 kpc. A comparison with IRAS images shows the presence of two cavities of low infrared emissivities. Radio emission and X-ray emission within the outline of the SNR is more prominent in the eastern part of the object. The actual physical extent of the remnant remains unclear, and morphological evidence of the infrared, optical, and radio observations implies that, in the north and west, the SNR has broken out into low-density regions of the interstellar medium.
