Solar-Terrestrial Relations: Climatic Changes, Solar Irradiance: Variations
Scientific paper
Variations of the solar irradiance, as directly measured today or extrapolated to past decades and centuries from instrumental observations or isotopic surrogates, play a significant rôle in long-term climatic change. The Little Ice Age episode of the 17th century has been most likely related toi the low solar activity period known as Maunder Minimum. The observed evolution of the globally average mean surface temperature seems stronly correlated to the variations of solar irradiance during the last two centuries.
