We present results for the Perseus cluster from the ROSAT All Sky survey. X-ray emission is found out to a radius of 1.3 degrees. The image shows a clear ellipticity and nonaxisymmetry, consistent with a superposition of a subcluster to the east. The spectral results indicate a strong downward temperature gradient towards the core of the cluster consistent with the presence of a cooling flow and a central temperature of about 2 to 3 keV. The temperature of the intracluster medium in the eastern part is also found to be substantially lower (2 to 3 keV) than in the test of the cluster (6 to 7 keV). We interpret the excess cool emission as evidence for an on-going merger. We detect extended emission centered on the bright elliptical IC 310.
