Observations of the hydrogen and helium 76-alpha (14.7 GHz) and 66-alpha (22.4 GHz) radio recombination lines toward G 0.7-0.0 (Sgr B2) are reported. The radio-continuum structure of the source is discussed, and it is shown that the structure of the ionized gas in G 0.7-0.0 is dominated by three components: a diffuse low-density envelope with a diameter of about 10 pc and an electron density of approximately 100 per cu cm, a compact H II region (designated G 0.7N) with a diameter of about 0.5 pc and an electron density of approximately 10,000 per cu cm, and a very compact H II region (G 0.7S) with a diameter of about 0.3 pc and an electron density of approximately 100,000 per cu cm. The recombination-line observations indicate that these three main components have nearly the same velocity and that an unidentified line feature with a radial velocity of approximately 25 km/s is marginally present at 76-alpha. An average ionized-helium abundance of 0.03 to 0.04 is measured toward G 0.7-0.0; this abundance is found to vary as a function of both frequency and telescope beam size.
