X-ray spectrometric analyses were made of the strontium contents of about two hundred Recent and fossil teeth and bones of different ages from many localities. The amount of strontium does not increase progressively with age but is related to locality. Where comparison has been possible it is invariably higher than that of the matrix rock. There is evidence that this trace element may be an original component of the fossil rather than the result of subsequent alteration.
