Archaeoastronomers look for early human evidence of efforts to study the heavens. Remains on Crete suggest that at the height of Minoan culture, they were acquiring knowledge from watching the Sun, the Moon, and prominent stars. The Minoans constructed sites that promoted the study of stellar navigation and the development of a calendar for religious and practical uses.
