The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is the future radio astronomy instrument which will deliver an order of magnitude improvement in sensitivity compared to current radio astronomy facilities. By taking maximum advantage of the latest digital technology, the SKA is particularly well suited to extremely large surveys, including a number of experiments targeted at understanding Dark Energy. The SKA project is described, with emphasis on the European contributions.
