Spitzer Proposal ID #485
Computer Science
Scientific paper
We propose to compile a low-resolution stellar atlas, sampling all regions of the HR diagram. The goal of the atlas is to provide templates for models of galaxy evolution, as well as calibrators for future space missions. In addition, the targets are intrinsically interesting: little is known about variation of spectral features with spectral or luminosity class. A search of the Spitzer archive reveals stellar classes that have been neglected in GO, GTO, orLegacy proposals. Such classes include hypergiants, supergiants, bright giants, giants, and high-mass dwarfs. This proposal seeks to obtain data that will complement that already in the Spitzer archive. The union of the two will provide a lasting Spitzer legacy.
