The authors present a preliminary analysis of the optical (3800 - 6600 Å) spectra of 12 stars of the WC 9 subclass. The line strengths are surprisingly similar among most of them, in contrast to W-R stars of WN subclasses. Line widths are found to correlate with excitation potential in the sense that lower level lines are formed in regions of higher velocity of the stellar wind. The inferred gradients are not the same from star to star, and span the range of similar measurements of other WN and WC subtypes reported in the literature.
