The transfer function for the speckle masking image reconstruction technique (Weigelt, 1977; Weigelt et al., 1983; Lohman et al., 1983 has been analyzed. The regions relevent to the speckle masking signal turn out to be proportional to (r0/D)4, where r0 is Fried's seeing parameter and D is the diameter of the telescope entrance pupil.
