A morphological description of 60-year geomagnetic variations is given for 1905-1965 on the basis of analytical models of the main geomagnetic field, obtained by spherical harmonic analysis; the study relies on the aggregate data from worldwide magnetic surveys. It is shown that these variations are nonuniformly distributed at the earth's surface, with the presence of large-scale extremal regions. The temporal evolution of these variations is of growth-decay type. At low and middle latitudes, these variations can be associated with various types of sources.
