A general description is given of the 4 kW solar array for the shuttle launched, NASA Space Telescope. The solar blankets which embody shunt diodes for shadow protection are discussed. Thermal cycling test results (about 30,000 cycles) are presented for various components and subassemblies. Solar cell performance characteristics, lifetime power profile, and mass breakdown are given.
