It is maintained that radio-telescope observations made by Birkinshaw et al. (1984) have confirmed the Siuniaev-Zel'dovich (1972) effect in the direction toward three rich galactic clusters. Specifically, a decrease in the background radiation corresponding to a temperature decrease of 0.5-1.5 mK was detected. Some cosmological implications of the SZ effect are discussed.
