The spiral galaxy NGC 4235 was discovered to have an emission-line
spectrum characteristic of type 1 Seyfert galaxies. Although its
apparent spatial position might suggest that it is a member of the Virgo
cluster, the radial velocity of the galaxy suggests that it is more
distant than the Virgo cluster.
