Scientific paper

The densities of the thermosphere were determined from the orbital data
of four satellites, and the semiannual variation was studied, analyzing
the density index (D). A general formula for the variation was derived
and compared with the CIRA 72 model. The formula includes a shift of the
extrema with height.
