Line Formation, Planetary Nebulae: General, Hii Regions

Scientific paper

The relative line intensities for the triplet system in He I, have been re-computed for various nebular optical depths at λ3888. The profile of the line has been considered due to its importance. The electron collisions have not been taken into account since a low density nebula has been assumed. A direct comparison with observational results supports the idea of a depopulating mechanism for the 2^3S level, such as the Ly-α ionization radiation. A three dimensional spherical symmetric model has been used.
