We have completed the data reduction and analysis for seven 35' x 35' subfields of the Deep Lens Survey (http://dls.bell-labs.com) to search for brown dwarf candidates and very red subdwarfs at/near the halo hydrogen burning limit. Taken with mosaic CCD imagers at NOAO's Blanco and Mayall Telescopes, each field is imaged in four bands: B, V, R and z', with limiting magnitudes for 5 sigma stellar detection in 1 arcsec seeing of 26.3, 26.4, 26.5, and 24.1 respectively in each of these bandpasses. These faint limits allow us to sample the red end of the field halo main sequence out beyond 1 kpc.. Comparison with theoretical color redshift predictions based on templates of galaxy evolution and analysis of the image point spread function in the V and/or B images indicates that we can significantly reduce the misidentification of high redshift galaxies with red halo stars beyond 21st mag. While brown dwarfs are clearly identified by their very red R-z' colors, the much redder B-V colors of the halo population red subdwarfs distinguish them from their more numerous M-dwarf counterparts in our deep fields.
