We present new results from the integral-field spectrograph SAURON. Based upon the TIGER concept, SAURON has a panoramic field of view (33"x41") and a high throughput, and has been optimized for studies of the stellar and gaseous components of early type galaxies. The SAURON survey of the kinematics and stellar populations of a representative sample of ~80 nearby E, S0 and Sa galaxies will constrain the intrinsic shape, mass-to-light ratio, and age and metallicity of spheroids, and will provide important clues on formation and evolution of early-type galaxies.
