A new set of synthetic horizontal-branch (SHB) models is used to analyze the Sandage period-shift effect. It is shown that the slope of the evolutionary period-metallicity relation for the RR Lyrae stars does depend on the precise effective temperature value. The effect of the helium abundances and the alpha-elements on the theoretical period-metallicity relation for the RR Lyrae stars is discussed. It is shown that both higher He abundances and enhanced proportions of the alpha-elements can result in significantly lower slopes for such a relation.
