The spectra of 53 Be stars from a list of early-type shell stars which is edited by Bidelman (1976) have been observed since 1982. The authors obtained a correlation between the spectral types and the quantum number of the highest Balmer line observed in Be stars. The ultraviolet flux of stars in the region longward of the Lyman jump increases with the effective temperature. This region may be important to the formation of stellar winds. The distribution of mean rotational velocities in spectral type intervals is also shown. The incidence of the Be phenomenon has a maximum in the B2 - B4.9 interval, which includes the spectral type, B2, with the maximum relative fraction of Be/B.
