The brightness distribution of the H-alpha emission line in the Rosette nebula has been measured for an area of 2.4 x 2.4 deg using the Bochum 61 cm telescope at ESO/La Silla equipped with a photoelectric photometer. An interference filter with 10 A bandwidth was used to exclude both N II forbidden lines at 6548, 6584 A. The map, which has an angular resolution of 4.75 arcmin, was constructed from 76 scans measured with a standing telescope; the intensity scale was calibrated using stars with absolutely calibrated continuum. In this, the detailed shape of the stellar H-alpha absorption line was taken into account using both high resolution coudespectra and photoelectric scanner measurements.
