Cygnus Loop: X Rays
Scientific paper
The Cygnus Loop supernova remnant (SNR) presents a unique opportunity to study details of the interaction of a blast wave with the inhomogeneous interstellar medium. The authors are currently mapping the entire SNR with the ROSAT-HRI. Such an unbiased, high-resolution survey allows for investigation of the fundamental physical processes that determine the global evolution of SNRs and shape the interstellar medium. Large clouds are of primary importance in the environment of the Cygnus Loop and are responsible for many features of its observed structure.
