The expected metal enrichment of the intra--cluster medium (ICM), the partition of metals between cluster galaxies and ICM, and the ``cold fraction'' depend on the stellar IMF. We discuss the predictions of different IMFs by means of a straightforward approach that is largely independent of model details and that can serve as a guideline to select the input parameters and interpret the results of more complex simulations.
