Meteors: Earth Ionosphere
Scientific paper
Questions relating to the formation of large regions of luminescence around a cosmic body are considered. On the basis of a comparison of the data from meteor observations and the results of rocket sounding of the ionosphere, it is concluded that these phenomena are caused by heating of the ambient electrons with subsequent disturbance of the atmospheric components by electron impact. The assumption is advanced that the heating mechanism of the ambient electrons is associated with the formative mechanism of sporadic ionospheric layers (ionosphere inhomogeneities).
