Significant progress, both theoretical and observational, has been made recently in the study of the role of the magnetic field in star formation. Many investigations have shown that the magnetic field plays an important role in supporting molecular clouds against self-gravity, in removing the "extra" angular momentum and the "extra" magnetic flux during the process of star formation. Moreover, the inefficiency of star formation and the bipolar outflows which were found by a lot of observations are in close relationship with the magnetic field.
