A new numerical code treating line radiative transfer in methanol lines in a stationary medium (BAAS, vol. 41, p. 457, 2009) is extended to include processes in continuum and used to investigate the influence of internal dust on the pumping of the prototypical Class I masers at 25 GHz. We show that when the dust is cooler than the gas (a probable situation behind a shock produced by the collision of the outflow from a newborn star with the ambient gas), it acts as an effective absorber for the "sink” photons of the pumping cycles, which significantly increases the efficiency of pumping. We discuss possible observational tests to check whether the dust plays a crucial part in the pumping of these masers. This project was supported by the NSF/REU grant AST-0851892 and the Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association.
