Gamma-ray absorption by photon-photon pair production in 3C 273 is considered. A lower limit of 4 light months is placed on the size of the X-ray source, assuming that the gamma-ray source is embedded in the X-ray source and that 3C 273 is at a distance of 500 Mpc. It is concluded that if the X-ray source is found to be significantly smaller than the cited lower limit, either the X- and gamma-ray sources do not coincide or the X and gamma rays are beamed.
