Certain analytic functions used in galactic mass models are reviewed
from a somewhat biased orbit-computational viewpoint. On this basis, it
is argued that at the present time, and optimal galactic mass model
should be a superposition of spheroids with two kinds of density laws:
the Schmidt (1956) type, and a new type given by Equation (3).
