A direct determination of the abundance of the isotopes of lithium which occurs as a trace element in the Holbrook meteorite is reported. The measurement was performed with an ion-microprobe mass-spectrometer which permits analysis of very small portions of the meteorite surface without chemical preparation. The concentration of lithium over the sample surface was very inhomogeneous. In general it was below the detection limit (about 1 ppm); however, some spots were found where the concentration was as high as about 100 ppm. In the regions of larger concentrations the ratio of the mass-peak heights Li 7 / Li 6 varied between 9.5 and 27.5; in a comparison sample of terrestrial hornblende it did not deviate by more than ±8 per cent.
