Olbers' Paradox, Cosmology

Scientific paper

In 1826, Olbers drew attention to the fact that, under reasonable conditions, the night sky should be ablaze with the light from astronomical sources and not dark as observed. The reason this does not happen is commonly stated in college astronomy courses to be connected with the expansion of the Universe. But this is a myth. The real reason the night sky is dark is more to do with the finite age of the galaxies.
