The ratio of total to selective absorption for luminous stars in the SMC is derived by investigating distribution functions of interstellar reddenings. N(E) and Q(E) distribution functions are interpreted as convolutions of exponential functions with Gaussian error curves. A value of about 2.0 is obtained for the absorption ratio, which is in good agreement with earlier results.
