The radio continuum power at 1.465 GHz of Sbc galaxies correlates tightly with the 100 micron power. A coincidence of the frequency distribution of the deviations from the radio power - 100 micron power correlation and of the frequency distribution of B exp 1.9 is noted where B, the magnetic field strength, is calculated by assuming minimum energy conditions. The coincidence is either by chance, which is improbable, or it implies that the minimum energy condition is fulfilled in almost all the galaxies (alternatively, all Sbc galaxies show the same deviation). This shows that the spread in the radio infrared correlation is due to the magnetic field. It would further suggest that the star formation histories of most of these galaxies have been similar during the past 100 million yr.
