Satellite measurements of the planetary radiation budget components (solar constant, reflected solar radiation, and emitted solar radiation) are of interest to climatic research because they provide a diagnosis of climatic fluctuations and are essential for the determination of the upper boundary condition for each climate and numerical forecast model. Furthermore, if carried out simultaneously with measurements in other spectral regions, the budget components provide quantitative insight into the physical nature of the fluctuations. Another, most important aspect, is their immense importance for the parameterization of radiative properties of clouds. The present analysis shows that the earth is slightly darker (albedo - 29 to 30% instead of 35 to 40%) and warmer (Tequ - 255 K instead of 250 K) than calculated on the basis of climatic data. Attempts to determine the solar radiation budget at the ground from such measurements are noted.
