Differential rotation, the variation in rotational frequency with θ at a given radius, is shown, in an axisymmetric system, to be the primary source of contributions to the fine structure of the normal mode eigenfrequency spectrum that is third and fifth order in an angular order m of the modes. Hill obtained coefficients of third-order terms of the p1,17, ..., p1,22 solar multiplets. The differential radius observations have been further analyzed for evidence of third-order terms for the p1,5, ..., p1,16 and p2,6, ..., p2,10 multiplets and for evidence of fifth-order terms for the p1,17, ..., p1,22 multiplets. The third- and fifth-order terms obtained are used to determine the implied radial dependence of the P2(cos θ) component and the scale height of the P4(cos θ) component of internal rotation in the Sun's convection zone.
