It is demonstrated that the quark-gluon string model can be extended to the analysis of ultrahigh-energy cosmic ray data. It is shown that this model predicts all the characteristics required to calculate hadron-nucleus interaction cross sections on the basis of the Glauber method: the total cross section, the slope of the diffraction cone, and the ratio of the real and imaginary parts of the scattering amplitude. The model can yield reliable predictions of the properties of hadron interactions at energies above 1000 TeV.
