Reasons to expect association of high-energy activity with nearby stars are outlined. The need to resort to proper-motion data to identify these stars is explained. Results of a search for proper-motion stars in, or very near, the error boxes of four high-latitude X-ray transient sources are given. The transients are 4U 0336+01, 2A 1102+384, Cen XR-4, and MX 2346-65.
