The behavior of the solutions of the Lin-Shu dispersion relation (1964, 1966) is examined qualitatively in terms of the stability parameter Q. Results show that a modification of the critical values of the dispersion speeds does not drastically effect the behavior of the solutions. On the other hand, the solutions of the Lynden Bell-Kalnojs dispersion relation (1972) have a more complicated behavior. This dispersion relation has different critical values for the dispersion speeds, and these values are generally larger than the corresponding values of the Lin-Shu relation.
