After a sunspot group has passed the maximum of its activity, the spots begin to divide into umbrae and penumbrae. During this ultimate stage of a group of sunspots, light bridges divide a spot. Attention is given to the question whether the light bridges participate actively in the division process. The considered process is characteristic only for highly active sunspot groups. It represents, therefore, a special case of sunspot division. The division process on the magnetic neutral line is only possible in delta configurations (Mount Wilson magnetic sunspot classification). The light bridge type observed during the division has been described by Vazques (1973). Attention is given to details of the division process and theoretical considerations regarding the division procedure.
