Scientific paper

In the present paper, two methods of determining the depth of spectral line formation in the solar atmosphere are examined. One method is based on the concept of a contribution function (CF) (in the sense of contribution to the observed intensity or absorption). The other method is based on the use of a response function (RF) which illustrates the action of small disturbances in solar atmospheric layers on the observed line profile.
