Observations with ROSAT, ASCA, and Chandra have revealed the existence of Vela-like pulsar+wind-nebula X-ray emission from within the unusual radio nebula DA 495. The evidence suggests that DA 495 is a rare example of an aging ``plerionic'' supernova remnant. Direct constraints on the system's age have not been achievable---none of the past observations has been capable of detecting pulsations. Similarly, the energetics of the engine driving the X-ray and radio nebulosities are poorly constrained. We propose a 50 ksec XMM observation of DA 495 to search for pulsations and obtain high-quality spectra of both the point-like and diffuse emission components, to better understand this object and the observationally unexplored aging process for plerionic SNRs.
